Cambridge English at International Maarif School of Bucharest

International Maarif School of Bucharest offers the opportunity for all students, from National Curriculum section, as well as International Curriculum section (International Maarif and Cambridge) to sit Cambridge English Exams organized by British Council in our school every year (enrollment for these exams is voluntary and not included in the tuition fee).


The Cambridge English exams organized by British Council at IMSB target those who learn and speak English as a second language. These exams are offered starting with primary school and they go up to high school.


Depending on their level of knowledge, IMSB students may sit the following English exams (https://www.britishcouncil.ro/en/exam/cambridge/which/general-english):


Designed to assess the English language skills of children aged between 7 and 12, the Cambridge English: Young Learners (YLE) exams are available at three assessment levels (Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers and A2 Flyers) that encourage children to work by monitoring their progress.


Certificates received as a result of passing the Young Learners: Movers and Young Learners: Flyers English language exams administered by the British Council are recognised as a linguistic competency for the admission test to the 5th grade intensive classes (minimum level required: A1 according to CEFR)


A2 Key, formerly known as Cambridge English: Key (KET), is the lowest level General English exam in the Cambridge English range. It shows that you can communicate in basic English in everyday situations.


This exam is recognised as a linguistic competency within the selection of the students who choose to study in bilingual and intensive classes if passed with one of the following grades: Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit or Pass.


B1 Preliminary is also known as the Preliminary English Test (PET) . This exam shows that you can communicate in English in practical, everyday situations. It will give you a good foundation if you want to study for a professional English qualification.


This exam is recognised both as a linguistic competency within the selection of the students who choose to study in bilingual and intensive classes and as a linguistic competency within the Baccalaureate if passed with one of the following grades: Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit or Pass.


B2 First is also called the First Certificate in English (FCE). This general English qualification proves that you can speak and write English well enough to work or study in an English-speaking environment.


This exam is recognised both as a linguistic competency within the selection of the students who choose to study in bilingual and intensive classes and as a linguistic competency within the Baccalaureate if passed with a score between 160-190 points.


C1 Advanced is also known as the Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE). This general English qualification shows that your English is of a standard expected of a professional business person or an undergraduate university student.


This exam is recognised both as a linguistic competency within the selection of the students who choose to study in bilingual and intensive classes and as a linguistic competency within the Baccalaureate if passed with a score between 180-210 points.
